Lowri Richards won the Solihull CC Women’s Road Race on Sunday 5 July, timing her sprint on the new Ridgeway finish to beat Amelia Staunton and Ella Tandy after a race that stayed largely together despite repeated attacks.
Megan Cherry looked set to ride into the junior national road race title after almost three laps alone in front. Then Mabli Phillips attacked from the bunch, closed a near-minute gap on the final lap, and rode straight past her to take the stripes above Harrogate.
Leon Atkins went one better than last year and Aalia Clay crowned a breakout first junior season as camsmajaco claimed both national time trial jerseys on a windy afternoon near York (Saturday 4 July).
The Solihull CC Women’s Road Race returns on Sunday 5 July as Round 3 of the British Women’s Team Cup, with a remodelled finale set to change the shape of the race. Gone is the old flat run-in near Gooms Hill; in its place comes the Ridgeway near Cookhill, a tougher uphill drag that could reward aggression as much as speed.
