Inside the Great Britain team at the biggest under-23 stage race of the year

For the remainder of the Tour de l’Avenir – widely regarded as the most important stage race in the under-23 racing calendar- we’re going to bring you regular dispatches from the Great Britain team. Hearing from coach Matt Brammeier and members of squad, you’ll have the inside track on how the team’s race is going.

First up, we hear from Elite Road & Senior Men’s Academy Coach Matt Brammeier. Brammeier recounts the race so far, from Sam Watson’s pre-race fall at Kreiz Breizh Elites, Ben Turner’s horror crash in the prologue and a puncture-hit team time trial, to the highs of top ten placings for Ethan Vernon and Lewis Askey followed by Ethan’s stage win today on stage 4 of the race.

Vernon took the win from a reduced bunch sprint, his first-ever UCI road race victory, just days after returning from track duty at the Olympics, with Lewis Askey rounding out a top day out for the British team in third.
