2021 calendar: British UCI road races revealed

The UCI road races expected to take place on British shores in 2021

The UCI has published its 2021 international road season calendar. The calendar includes six British UCI road races, two fewer than the original 2020 calendar.

What’s changed? Gone is the Prudential RideLondon-Surrey Classic, the UK’s only World Tour race for men. The Women’s Tour of Scotland (2.1) is also not on the calendar.

Meanwhile, both the ASDA Tour de Yorkshire Women’s Race and the Tour de Yorkshire men’s race are marked as ‘TBC’ (to be confirmed).

The RideLondon Classique has a new date at the end of May, neatly placed a week ahead of the Women’s Tour, and is back as a Women’s WorldTour race having been demoted to 1.Pro level this year.

Of course, with the uncertainties arising from COVID-19, it’s not a given that any of these races will go ahead. But even if they do, the loss of two UCI races in the UK is surely a blow to an already fragile-looking domestic calendar.

NOTE: Since this article was published, the Tour de Yorkshire has been postponed to 2022. The RideLondon Classique and the Rutland-Melton CiCLE Classic have also been cancelled. And the Women’s Tour has been postponed to 4-9 October (tbc).
