The Domestic Race of the Year award recognises the event that best captures the spirit, excitement, and excellence of British road racing. For 2024, the Rapha Lincoln Grand Prix was the unanimous choice of the judging panel. Known as the jewel in the crown of British road racing, the Lincoln GP once again showed why it is one of the most iconic and beloved events on the domestic calendar.
It really is the sum of all these important parts that makes the event so special
The organisers of the race reflected on its unique appeal when speaking to The British Continental: “The Lincoln Grand Prix is the longest-running premier road event in the UK, with 2025 marking its 69th edition. The history, along with the infamous cobbled climb of Michaelgate, the stunning finish line nestled between the amazing cathedral and castle, the riders who love the race, and finally the fantastic following of the cycling community far and wide, makes the event very special indeed. It really is the sum of all these important parts that makes the event so special”
2024: A Year to Remember
The Lincoln GP rarely disappoints and the 2024 edition was no different, delivering on all fronts. The women’s race saw a commanding solo victory from Kate Richardson, followed by a stunning 2-3-4 by the Shibden Apex RT junior team while the open race featured a fairytale win for Matt Holmes, marking his triumphant return to racing, as well as the controversy of Alex Richardson’s premature finish line celebrations.
The organisers credited both the riders and the fans for the event’s success: “2024 was another superb edition made great by the way the riders took on and raced the event, cheered on by the usual thousands of spectators,” they told us.
