Alex Richardson (Saint Piran) won the inaugural 2024 London Dynamo Spring Road Race (National B) on Sunday, beating Conor McGoldrick (Richardsons Trek DAS) to the line on a blustery day near Leighton Buzzard.
The first meaningful break of the day was made up of Toby Langstone (Le Col), Matt Bailey (Ride Revolution Coaching) and Cameron McLaren (TAAP Kalas), who got away on the first lap. They stretched out a gap of over a half minute but by lap three, hampered by mechanicals and punctures, they had been reabsorbed by the peloton.
Bernard Galea (SPRNT) was the next to make a move. He was joined by Alex Richardson (Saint Piran), Conor McGoldrick (Richardsons Trek DAS), Nick Tyrie (Foran CT), Danylo Riwnyj (trainSharp Orro Elite). The five combined well and by lap five of six, they had a one minute lead over the chasing bunch.
As the five took the bell, their lead had swollen to almost two and a half minutes. At this moment, Richardson took his chance, punching clear, with only McGoldrick able to respond.

With the pair carving out a decisive lead, it was just a matter of which of them would reach the line first. Former pro Richardson got there first, with McGoldrick close behind. Meanwhile Tyrie forged clear to cross the line solo for third place.
The win was Richardson’s first of the season. The former pro is a serial winner at national level, so if this form is anything to go by there will be plenty more victories to come in 2024, despite Richardson no longer racing and training full-time.
