What is it?
Organised by London Dynamo to help support the domestic road racing scene, the London Dynamo Spring Road Race is a brand new event comprising an open National B event, together with a 97km women’s Regional A road race.
As the focus here at The British Continental is on national road racing, this preview concentrates on the open road race, although the circuit is the same for both races.
The route
The race takes place on the Cublington circuit to the west of Leighton Buzzard. At 20.4km, the circuit is long for a national road race on typical rolling terrain.
It only features 198m of climbing per lap, but the sting in the tail is the finishing climb, a 600m ramp that gets progressively steeper, maxing out at around 12.5% gradient towards the top.
The open race takes in 6 laps of the circuit, clocking in at 138km altogether, while the women’s race incorporates 4 laps (97km).

Contenders
With many under-23s lining up at the Stars of the South West road race – round 1 of the Open Under-23 National Road Series – on the same day, this race is packed with a more experienced crowd.
You don’t get much more experienced than former professional Alex Richardson (Saint Piran), although we understand that a recent crash has put his participation in doubt. That being the case, the standout names are Conor McGoldrick (Richardsons Trek DAS) and Oliver Hucks (TAAP Kalas). McGoldrick was on excellent form last weekend at the RCR FatCreations Road Race, finishing second behind Rowan Baker, so is a clear favourite. Hucks has also bee prominent this season. He was 11th at RCR FatCreations race and an excellent third at the rain-soaked Jock Wadley Memorial.

Other names to watch? Three times Mauritian road race champion Alexandre Mayer (USKIS Saint Piran) rides only his second domestic race following his 30th at the Royal Navy Cup. Danylo Riwnyj (trainSharp Elite) has been consistent so far this season including 5th at the Royal Navy Cup and 12th at the RCR FatCreations race.
Watch out too for Clay Davies who was a regular in the top placings in National B road races last season, and Wheelbase CabTech Castelli rider Callum Laborde who had a solid circuit race season last year, with four top tens in the National Circuit Series.
