Following discussions with the event organiser and Redcar and Cleveland Council, the East Cleveland Classic will now be rescheduled to a new date in spring 2024.
Originally due to take place on Sunday 1 October, the race had been set to be the curtain closer to the National Road Series, after being added to the calendar in March as part of the deal with Redcar and Cleveland Council to bring the 2023 National Road Championships to the area.

This year’s National Road Series will conclude instead with the Beaumont Trophy and Curlew Cup in Northumberland this weekend. The cancellation of the race cuts the National Road Series back down to just four races for men this year, and five for women.
British Cycling said in a press release that “the decision has been taken to reschedule the event to a new slot in the calendar which will be better suited to teams and riders,” hinting that the late-season date may not have been ideal timing for some.
The popular East Cleveland Klondike Grand Prix, last held in 2019, traditionally had an April date, a testing opener to the National Road Series. Hopefully a new spring date for the East Cleveland Classic will make it similarly popular, and will help bring some balance to a backloaded National Road Series calendar.
