British domestic racing is set for an exciting refresh with the launch of the Rapha Super-League, a competition crafted to celebrate and elevate Britain’s best cycling talents. Conceived to provide clarity, cohesion, and visibility for the domestic racing scene, the league aligns with the Elite Road Task Force’s vision of enhanced fan engagement and dynamic race coverage.
Beginning with the iconic Rapha Lincoln Grand Prix in May and concluding with the picturesque Wentworth Woodhouse Grand Prix in August, the Super-League encompasses 16 diverse events. This is not merely a points competition – it’s designed to showcase versatility, spanning road races, crits, and even a stage race, all carefully selected to test every facet of rider ability and provide clear, compelling narratives throughout the season.
Echoing the romance of historic competitions such as the celebrated Super-Prestige Pernod, Rapha’s Super-League taps into cycling’s deep heritage. Riders automatically accumulate points simply by finishing races, with standings regularly updated and published, creating a dynamic and ever-changing leaderboard. A special committee—including representatives from Rapha, current racers, and The British Continental—has calibrated a points system that rewards consistency and versatility, with additional points for stage victories in the Ronde Van Wymeswold and bonus points at the final two races, ensuring suspense until the very end.
Jess Morgan, Rapha’s UK & EU Community Marketing Manager, captured the league’s intent: “The Rapha Super-League connects the best races in Britain together into one competition and will tell the stories of the best riders. Great racing has always happened in the UK – not many people realise that you can see the local heavy hitters and future stars of the sport battling it out in your backyard. We want to make it easier to follow and understand, bringing the magic of the sport to more fans.” Jon Dutton OBE, Chief Executive of British Cycling, has endorsed the initiative as “an exciting and original concept which highlights a selection of some of the best races our sport has to offer.”
The Super-League commits fully to gender parity, with parallel competitions and equal recognition for men and women. The season’s climax will be celebrated at the Super-League Awards Party in London, honouring winners with trophies, prize money, and the distinguished title of Rapha’s best all-rounder.
The Super-League builds on Rapha’s deep-rooted support for British cycling. In 2020, Rapha stepped in to secure the future of the Lincoln Grand Prix. Previously, Rapha was instrumental in popular events like the London Nocturne and sponsored the successful Rapha Condor team for a decade. The Rapha Foundation has also donated significantly to grassroots initiatives, including Herne Hill Velodrome, the Rayner Foundation, and Ride for Charlie, reflecting a sustained investment in the sport’s future.
The Super-League will be extensively covered through Rapha’s social channels, and detailed storytelling by The British Continental. Monument Cycling will also provide coverage.
We’ll also feature a dedicated Super-League hub on our website, which will begin appearing ahead of Round 1, providing fans with easy access to league standings, rider profiles, race previews, and exclusive content.
At races themselves, fans can gather around Rapha’s popular ‘Broom Wagon’, a social hub dispensing coffee, Lucky Saint beer, and cowbells—creating vibrant focal points that celebrate community, competition, and the pure joy of cycling.
The Rapha Super-League kicks off at the Rapha Lincoln Grand Prix on 11 May. Follow every twist, turn, and decisive moment of this innovative competition at The British Continental.
