Stage 3, a grueling 166km route with 2,282 meters of climbing, began in Sheffield, taking riders through Rotherham, Doncaster, and finishing with an uphill sprint in Barnsley. Yorkshire native Ben Swift (INEOS Grenadiers) initiated the day’s first break, alongside Julian Alaphilippe (Soudal Quick-Step) and Jake Stewart (Israel-Premier Tech), quickly gaining an advantage over the peloton on the twisting roads near the Peak District. The group swelled to four with the addition of Jelte Krijnsen (Q36.5 Pro Cycling), but Israel-Premier Tech kept the pressure high, eventually reeling them in after Alaphilippe claimed both King of the Mountain points.

As the race progressed, several breakaways attempted to disrupt the peloton. A notable move by Tobias Foss (INEOS Grenadiers) led to a 10-man break, including British champion Ethan Hayter (INEOS Grenadiers) and Magnier. Though promising, it was short-lived as Israel-Premier Tech continued to chase aggressively.

With 50km to go, a breakaway group formed, featuring Louis Sutton (Great Britain Cycling Team), Julius Johansen (Sabgal/Anicolour), and Jonas Abrahamsen (Uno-X Mobility), among others. Sutton, sporting a torn jersey after an earlier crash, briefly threatened Williams’ lead. However, the pace from Israel-Premier Tech proved too much as they closed down the gap.

The race came alive in the final 25km as Bahrain Victorious and Israel-Premier Tech pushed the tempo. The breakaway group was finally caught inside the last 6km. A late attack by Tom Pidcock (INEOS Grenadiers) up Hound Hill saw him take the King of the Mountain points, but he and Oscar Onley (Team dsm-firmenich PostNL) were swiftly pulled back.

In the final kilometre, Williams launched a decisive sprint, holding off Magnier and Edoardo Zambanini (Bahrain Victorious) to take his second win in two days. His victory also secures him the lead in the points classification, while Oscar Onley leads the best young rider classification. Callum Thornley (TRINITY Racing) retains the King of the Mountain jersey, and Louis Sutton was awarded the Combativity prize for his resilience and aggressive riding.

Stage 4, on Friday, September 6, will see the riders take on the East Midlands, covering 138.5km from Derby Arena to Newark-on-Trent.
