The women’s road season ends this Sunday (7 September) with the Maria Thomson Memorial, now a National B and the final round of the British Women’s Team Cup. Both a tribute to a much-loved Kingston Wheeler and a hard-fought season finale, the race goes ahead thanks to the club’s commitment despite modest entries, ensuring the calendar closes with a full national road race.
Elena Day (Loughborough Lightning) claimed her first National B road race victory with a decisive long-range move at the Duncan Murray Wines Road Race, holding off all challengers to win alone in Naseby (10 August).
Round 5 of the British Women’s Team Cup takes place on Sunday (10 August) in Northamptonshire, as the Duncan Murray Wines Road Race returns to its 20 km circuit around Naseby. Organised by Welland Valley CC and backed by local merchant Duncan Murray Wines, the National B event covers four laps of rolling, wind-exposed lanes before finishing on the rising straight beside Fairfax’s View.
Round 4 of the British Women’s Team Cup was curtailed when a crash and the absence of an ambulance obliged officials to abandon the Solihull CC Women’s Road Race with one lap remaining (Sunday 20 July)
