Crash and ambulance delay force abandonment of Solihull CC Women’s Road Race
Round 4 of the British Women’s Team Cup was curtailed when a crash and the absence of an ambulance obliged officials to abandon the Solihull CC Women’s Road Race with one lap remaining (Sunday 20 July)
An afternoon that had promised a lively fourth round of the British Women’s Team Cup was curtailed when a crash and the absence of an ambulance obliged officials to abandon the Solihull CC Women’s Road Race with one lap remaining.
Report
The 2025 Solihull CC Women’s Road Race, round four of the British Women’s Team Cup and a National B fixture, set off at 14:00 on Sunday 20 July on the 22.4-kilometre Inkberrow circuit in Worcestershire. Riders faced damp but drying roads after a sharp shower half an hour before the start.
Early aggression shaped the opening lap. Tammy Miller (DAS-Hutchinson) went clear towards the end of the first half-lap and stretched her advantage to 33 seconds before the bunch closed her down. Jennifer Lemen (PDQ Cycle Coaching – Property Elite) counter-attacked soon after, but her eight-second gap suffered the same fate.
Mid-race rhythm was interrupted on the second full lap when the race ambulance broke down. Commissaires neutralised the event until a following car could replace it in the convoy.
With two laps remaining, a series of short, marked moves—with Brother UK-On Form prominent—failed to split the field. The decisive incident came with around one lap to go, when a crash in the peloton required an ambulance on scene. While riders waited for a replacement unit, a further downpour swept across the course. Given the delay and deteriorating weather, officials abandoned the race.
