Spirit Racing’s George Kimber outkicked Monte Guerrini to claim victory in a six-man breakaway battle as the Evesham Vale Road Race made its triumphant return.
After a year’s absence, the Evesham Vale Road Race returned to the calendar with a stacked field eager to kickstart their seasons in style. Organised by Evesham and District Wheelers, the long-running 100km race took on the well-used Inkberrow circuit, a familiar proving ground for National B road races in the Midlands. Despite its relatively benign profile—offering less than 1000m of climbing across four and a half laps—the fast, rolling terrain and a demanding drag to the finish ensured a hard-fought contest.
A rapid opening lap set the tone, and by the time the bunch rolled through for the first passage of the line, a break of six had already forced its way clear. Among them were some of the most accomplished riders in the domestic peloton: reigning National Road Series champion George Kimber (Spirit Racing), The British Continental’s national road race rankings leader Monte Guerrini (Le Col RT), Portsdown Classic winner Jordan Giles (DAS Richardsons), TT powerhouse John Archibald (HUUB WattShop), Alexandre Mayer (Foran CT), and Joshua Horsfeld (Reflex Nopinz). With cooperation high, the move quickly carved out a lead, extending to 1’32” by the end of lap two.
With the breakaway working well together, the bunch behind struggled to organise an effective chase. By the time the bell rang for the final lap, the gap remained stable, despite a five-rider group attempting to mount a pursuit. The advantage, however, was never seriously threatened.
Heading into the final kilometres, it was clear the six escapees would decide the honours between them. It came down to a drag race to the line, with Kimber timing his sprint to perfection to outkick Guerrini and take a hard-earned victory. Mayer followed in third, with Giles, Archibald, and Horsfeld rolling in behind.
