Season opener: North Lincolnshire Women’s Classic joins the calendar

Generation Pro Cycling Events is launching the North Lincolnshire Women's Classic on March 9, 2025, a new season opener for women's domestic peloton.

Generation Pro Cycling Events, the architects of some of Britain’s key circuit races in recent years – think the Beverley Grand Prix, Newark Town Centre Races, and the Barnsley Town Centre Races – have turned their attention to creating a new cornerstone for women’s racing. Enter the North Lincolnshire Women’s Classic, scheduled for Sunday, March 9th, 2025, and billed as the season opener for the domestic women’s peloton.

Classified as a National B road race, this event mirrors the men’s Portsdown Classic in intent and style: a first test of the legs after a long winter of base miles and turbo sessions. It offers the women’s peloton a rare early-season battleground: the chance to shake off rust, lay down a marker, and size up the competition. For fans, it’s a first glimpse of rider form and team strength ahead of a packed spring schedule.

The race unfolds on the Hainton circuit, an undulating route on the eastern fringe of the Lincolnshire Wolds, a landscape whose quiet beauty belies the challenges it holds. With its narrow lanes, shifting gradients, and the ever-present possibility of a biting March wind, it promises a punchy, attritional day of racing. Riders will need sharp positioning, sharp tactics, and sharp legs if they want to leave a mark.

Chris Lawrence, the organiser, knows how to create a race that resonates. “There has for some time been a call to place a warm-up race before the bigger events, and we are delighted to help with that,” he said. “The UK women’s racing scene is thriving, and supporting it has always been at the core of our aims.”

With the Anexo CAMS Women’s CiCLE Classic, East Cleveland Classic, and Rapha Lincoln Grand Prix just over the horizon, this race should serve as a valuable stepping stone, giving riders the race rhythm they’ll need as the season gathers pace. The field size is capped at 80, with 10 reserve slots, and entries are expected to go fast.

The Classic offers not just a welcome early-season race but a chance to build momentum for the months ahead. As Lawrence emphasises, this is a race designed to support the growing women’s racing scene. With a generous prize fund, close ties to the local community, and a commitment to safety, it’s an event that aims to establish itself as a key feature of the UK calendar.
