The West Midlands road racing calendar for 2025 receives a significant boost with the addition of a new Under-23 Open National Road Series race. Scheduled for 8th June on the Welland circuit near Malvern, the event provides a welcome expansion to the national under-23 series, which was limited to just four rounds in 2024โ.
The Welland circuit, known for its rolling terrain and flowing roads, will offer a fair and challenging test for Britainโs up-and-coming riders. William Fotheringham, British Cycling West Midlands board road lead, explained: โHosting an under-23 series round is a good fit as the region has produced a stream of talented young riders in recent years. The Welland circuit is a good racing course which will suit all types of riders and itโs easy to reach from most of the UK.โ
The inclusion of this new round marks an important step for the Under-23 Open National Road Series, which serves as a vital development pathway for young riders looking to progress to elite and professional levels.

The 2025 West Midlands calendar also sees the return of two prominentย National B road races. Theย Evesham Vale Road Race, onย 16th March, will once again open the regional season. As noted in the press release, the event will be expanded to include a newย Regional B race for third- and fourth-category riders, alongside theย National B race for E/1/2/3 riders, widening opportunities for grassroots competitors.
Equally significant is the return of theย Inkberrow round of the British Womenโs Team Cup, scheduled forย 20th July. This National B race remains a key fixture for womenโs road racing, attracting leading domestic teams to one of the regionโs most demanding circuits.
Fotheringham praised the collective efforts that have enabled this growth: โWe are really proud that the hard work of our volunteers and officials have enabled us to build again on our achievements of recent years. We have found some fantastic partners, notably Fusion Media, whose support has enabled us to rebuild road racing in the region.โ

The 2025 calendar also welcomes new organising clubs, withย Bridgnorth CCย andย Stourbridge CCย hosting fresh Regional-level events onย 29th Marchย andย 22nd Juneย respectively. Longstanding fixtures such as theย Marches 3-Day (formerly the BikeStow 3-Day), which runs fromย 27th-29th June, and theย Nick Clayton Memorial Raceย onย 7th September, ensure the calendar maintains both depth and tradition.
The inclusion of theย Llandrindod Road Raceย onย 27th Aprilย also reflects the growing cross-border collaboration with Welsh Cycling, something Fotheringham highlighted as vital to the regionโs success: โOur cross-border collaboration with Welsh Cycling has become a significant factor, and it has enabled us to turn our 3-day into one of the best stage races in the UK.โ
The return of established races alongside a newย Under-23 Open National Seriesย round underscores the West Midlands’ growing role in British road racing. With opportunities for riders of all categories, the 2025 season promises to balance grassroots participation with national-level competition.
