The Plymouth Corinthian CC Summer Road Race takes place this Sunday. There are regional honours up for grabs with the race incorporating the South West And South Open Divisional Championships.
An open National B road race organised by Plymouth Corinthian CC. The event also includes a women’s regional A race in the afternoon.
The open race incorporates the South West and South Open Divisional Championships; riders from any region can participate, but the top three South West and South registered riders will be awarded medals for their respective divisional championships.
Route
The race takes place on the Brentor circuit in Devon. The course is regarded as a true staple of South West road racing on the lower Western slopes of Dartmoor.
It’s a simple, triangular circuit on wide, non-technical roads. The race might not pack in too much elevation (1530m), a leg-sapping drag up to the line and open sections have the potential to split the race.
With 12.75 laps of the circuit to cover, the total race length in 107km.
Riders to watch
There are a number of riders likely to contend. The favourites are undoubtedly Saint Piran pair Harry Birchill and William Roberts.
Charlie Meredith (Mid Devon CC) laid down a marker at the Totnes Vire stage race with a stage win and second overall. A broken rib may hold him back however.

Stephen Swindley (Royal Navy Cycling) demonstrated his form with an excellent 4th at the Upton 200 recently against a quality field. Matthew Gilmour (Primera-TeamJobs) was second on a stage of the Totnes Vire, while Steve Lampier (Kernow Racing) – one of the best domestic riders around in his prime – will be looking to roll back the years.
