The PNE National B road race opens a weekend of three National B road races. Taking place on Saturday 29 April, it is then followed by Cold Dark North‘s men’s and women’s Oakenclough road races on Sunday.
A menโs National B road organised by the long-running Portsmouth North End Cycling Club. It takes place near Winchester in the South Downs National Park.
Alex Richardson (Saint Piran) won the 2022 edition and is back to defend his crown this year.
Route
130km in length, the race takes in 10 and a half laps of a 12.9km circuit. Riders roll out from the race HQ at Owslebury along Longmoore Road and then join the circuit at the junction with Belmore Lane. From here, the course heads southeast, before a left onto Salt Lane takes the route up to the finish line for the first time. Shortly after the finish line, itโs another left onto Millbarrows. The course then heads northwest until a final lefthand turn onto Longbarrow, which takes the riders back to where they joined the circuit.
At 223m of elevation per lap, the amount of climbing in the race is not insignificant. But with no major climbs to deal with per se, the effect is more one of wearing the legs down after 10 and a half laps of racing.
The final climb on the circuit up to the finish line is hardly Holme Moss but it should be steep enough at the end of the race to encourage a selection on the final dash to the line.

Defending champion Alex Richardson (Saint Piran) lines up with number 1 on his back and will be the man to beat. Other names of note include Sam Clark (trainSharp Elite), Jack Crook (Richardsons Trek DAS) and Alex Peters (also Richardsons Trek DAS).
