Frankie Hall (DAS-Hutchinson-Brother UK) beat Zoe Langham (Pro-Noctis – 200 Degrees Coffee – Hargreaves Contracting) to take her first National B road race victory of the year at the Harrogate Nova Spring Road Race.
A small but high quality field lined up for six laps of the attritional Dacre circuit in North Yorkshire for the first ever women’s Harrogate Nova Spring Road Race at National B level.
The decisive move of the race was made early, with seven riders breaking clear on the second ascent of the climb from Dacre to Dike Lane. The move include two riders from DAS-Hutchinson-Brother UK (Frankie Hall and Robyn Clay), two from UCI Continental rivals Pro-Noctis – 200 Degrees Coffee – Hargreaves Contracting (Zoe Langham and Amy Gornall), junior rider Ruby Oakes (Shibden Apex RT), Rachel Galler (Saint Piran WRT), and Lauren Langham (Team Boompods).
On lap three Hall and Langham pressed on up the climb and created gap. With their respective teammates controlling the rest of the group behind, the pair quickly created a sizeable lead.
The duo combined well, until the final ascent. Here, Langham, a good climber, began attacking, wanting to distance Hall, the superior sprinter before the line. Langham tried several times, eventually slightly distancing Hall, but Hall clawed her back on the run-in to the finish. Hall then launched an impressive sprint to take the win over the line.
“It’s been a heavy couple of weeks of training so it’s nice to see the form coming together ahead of some of the bigger UCI races on the calendar,” Hall told us after the race.
