A new domestic cycling team, Giant Sheffield Precision, has been launched midway through the 2025 season. The Sheffield-based squad – spearheaded by local rider Adam Quixall in collaboration with Giant’s Sheffield store – aims to boost Britain’s faltering elite road racing scene. Four riders are already confirmed for the roster: Quixall himself, Lance Childs, Andrew Cutts, and Reuben Trotter.

The surprise mid-season launch comes at a time when the UK domestic racing scene has been struggling. Recent years have seen a string of team closures and a dwindling presence of elite squads. At the end of 2024, Britain’s only two remaining men’s UCI Continental teams – Trinity Racing and Saint Piran – both folded, leaving no UK-registered Continental teams on the road in 2025. This collapse, alongside several race cancellations and funding woes, has cast a cloud over the sport domestically. In this context, the emergence of a new team is a welcome bright spot for British racing fans.

According to Adam Quixall, the idea for Giant Sheffield Precision arose directly from these challenges. It was Andy Liversidge, manager of the Giant Store Sheffield, who first recognised the need. “Andy…has seen the decline in the UK elite team. There’s not many around now. He wants to support a bunch of local riders,” Quixall told The British Continental, explaining the genesis of the project. With Giant’s backing, the new team seeks to give talented regional riders a platform at the elite level when opportunities have become scarce.

The team’s plan for 2025 is ambitious yet focused. Quixall says they intend to race in all the remaining National Road Series and National Circuit Series events through the rest of the year. By showing up at these events, the team hopes to make an immediate impact and help invigorate competition. “The plan is to race across all the National Road Series and National Circuit Series races for the remainder of the year,” Quixall confirmed. Backing the team are a handful of industry sponsors that underscore its local-first, rider-oriented ethos. Giant is providing bikes for the squad, and Quixall mentions other key sponsors including Lake, ABUS, and co-title sponsor Precision.

Giant Sheffield Precision is currently open to rider applications as it builds out its squad, although Quixall cautions that spots will be limited. Still, the call is out for talented Elite, Cat 1 and Cat 2 riders in the region who are looking for a team. Those who do join will don interim team kit for the remainder of 2025 – kit designs are in the works now – as the team works toward a full official launch by the end of the year.

Quixall’s own passion for the project is evident. The Rotherham-based rider is not only managing the team’s formation but will also pin on a number himself. “I’m just trying to grow the British scene again. I’m really enthusiastic about racing. I love it,” he said, emphasising that his motivations are rooted in love for the sport. Quixall is a long-time training partner and close friend of WorldTour professional Ben Swift (Ineos Grenadiers), and that inspiration from the top level fuels his desire to lift the domestic scene.
