George Kimber has been crowned the Domestic Rider of the Year (Male) at the British Conti Awards 2024. Kimber’s outstanding season, highlighted by his victory in the National Road Series and consistent performances across top-tier domestic races, demonstrated his tactical intelligence, resilience, and versatility.
The Domestic Rider of the Year (Male) award honours the standout male rider on the UK domestic scene, and in 2024, that accolade goes to George Kimber. Representing Spirit TBW Stuart Hall Cycling, Kimber delivered a season of consistency, resilience, and standout performances that made him the undisputed leader of the domestic peloton.
A Season of Consistency and Triumph
Kimber’s 2024 campaign began with a breakthrough moment—a stage win in the Rás Mumhan, Ireland’s second-biggest stage race, in March. This victory set the tone for the rest of his season, where his tactical intelligence and strength across a variety of terrains shone through.
“I would say the Rás Mumhan stage win was key to kick-start my season and take the pressure off,” Kimber reflected. “I really had no idea how my legs would be having been on a cycle touring trip round Asia over the winter—I guess it shows old-school base miles are still relevant in 2024!”
From there, Kimber’s results painted a picture of remarkable consistency:
National Road Series Champion: His steady performances across multiple rounds secured him the prestigious overall title, cementing his dominance on the domestic scene.
4th in the Rapha Lincoln Grand Prix: A stellar performance on the cobbled streets of Lincoln against some of the best riders in the UK.
3rd in the Lancaster Grand Prix: Another strong ride in one of the most competitive races of the National Road Series.
Top 10s in the Ryedale Grasscrete Grand Prix and Beaumont Trophy: Kimber consistently finished at the sharp end of the toughest races on the calendar.
Kimber’s success is even more impressive given the context—he was racing for an elite team while balancing work, a reality that added an extra layer of challenge to an already demanding schedule.
I’m very proud of the hard work put in by myself and the team. We had a great group of lads, and what we lacked in horsepower at times we made up for in morale!

An Uncertain Future
Kimber’s performances in 2024 seemed poised to catapult him to the next level, with a planned move to Saint Piran, a UCI Continental team. However, the recent announcement of the team’s closure has left Kimber in a state of uncertainty: “I was hoping to go to Saint Piran, but obviously after the news the other day, that’s a no-go now. In an ideal world, Harry gets this new team set up and I’d be able to ride for them, but of course, it’s all subject to sponsorship at the moment.”
Despite the uncertainty, Kimber remains committed to racing, also hinting that a new National Road Series event might be in the works for 2025: “Goals are hard to set without a calendar, but I’d like to do more of the National Circuit Series next year. Unfortunately, I have to be a bit more selective now I’m working, but I will race as much as I can. I’ve heard there might be an NRS in the South West, which would be epic.”
Hopefully, it will help put me on the map as a rider and help me secure a team or sponsors for next year
A Well-Deserved Honour
Kimber’s achievements in 2024 epitomise everything the Domestic Rider of the Year award represents—consistency, versatility, and resilience. His ability to consistently perform at the top level of the UK domestic scene, while balancing the realities of life off the bike, makes him a truly deserving recipient.
“It means a lot. Hopefully, it will help put me on the map as a rider and help me secure a team or sponsors for next year,” he told us, earning bonus points for praising The British Continental’s domestic racing coverage: “It’s great to see such in-depth coverage and reports of the British scene on this page.”
