Stage 2 took the riders from Kanturk to Sneem over challenging terrain. Early crosswinds caused chaos, with riders losing contact right from the start. The winds didn’t deter attacks, as Daire Feeley (All Human – VeloRevolution), Pete Cocker (Richardsons Trek DAS), and Gareth O’Neill (Challenge CC) launched an attack within the first 30km but were quickly reeled back in. O’Neill struck again as the race approached the first King of the Hills (KOH) of the day, taking the points over the first Cat 3 in Scartaglin after 37.8km. Conor McGoldrick (Richardsons Trek DAS), Jack Luke Marshall (Brocar Rali Ale), and Jude Taylor (Team PB Performance) followed in second, third, and fourth, respectively. O’Neill was reeled in after the KOH.

Over the next 15km, the race was steady until O’Neill attacked again, bringing Mitchell McLaughlin (All Human – VeloRevolution), Patton Sims (Good Guys Racing), and Conal Scully (Dan Morrissey Primor by Pissei) with him. At their peak, the riders had a 27-second advantage but were reeled back in as the second KOH, a Cat 3 in Callinafersey, approached. McGoldrick once again led over the KOH, with Corkery (Team Ireland), Martin (Wheelbase Cabtech Castelli), and Laverick (Ribble Rebellion) following in second, third, and fourth.

Despite numerous attacks over the next 20km as the race passed through Killorglin, nothing managed to break away. The next challenge was the Cat 3 Bunglasha KOH after 91.2km. Logan Maclean (Killarney CC) led over the top, with McGoldrick in second. Tom Armstrong (Wheelbase Cabtech Castelli) and Ryan Christensen (Foran CT) were third and fourth.

Maclean was still ahead after the third KOH and took the crucial 15 points at the top of the Cat 1 Ballaghasheen Pass. O’Brien (Ireland), Warren Scanlon (Brocar Rali Ale), Dom Jackson (Foran CT), Dillon Corkery (Ireland), George Kimber (Spirit TBW Stuart Hall Cycling), and O’Connor (Leinster) followed in second to seventh across the crest of the climb.

The race fragmented significantly following the KOH, with groups scattered along the road. A fast descent off Ballaghasheen formed a leading group of 27 riders with nearly a three-minute gap over the second group, which included both the yellow jersey holder, Alex Pritchard (Richardsons Trek DAS), and white jersey holder, Doogan (Team Ireland). This gap shrank to just 90 seconds with 50km of racing remaining. McGoldrick led over the Coomakista Cat 2, ahead of Jackson, Maclean, Liam O’Brien (Team Ireland), Martin, and Shoreman (Wheelbase Cabtech Castelli).

With approximately 40km of racing left, Irishman Conn McDunphy of USA Team Skyline-CADENCE and O’Brien attacked. Their lead grew to over a minute, with the yellow jersey group a further minute behind as they approached the finishing loop in Sneem. O’Brien led over the final KOH, with McDunphy in second. Corkery and Shoreman took third and fourth.

As the race neared the finish in Sneem, O’Brien and McDunphy’s lead was sufficient to stay away. McDunphy took the stage win into Sneem, with O’Brien finishing second. George Peden (Team PB Performance) won the sprint for third, with Corkery leading the chasing group for fourth at a 32-second deficit.

Dom Jackson takes over the Bective Stud Yellow Jersey classification, but O’Brien and McDunphy are close behind with the exact same time – it’s still all to play for.

McDunphy’s win places him in the FBD Stage Winner Jersey. Corkery’s fourth-place finish allows him to lead the Citybreak Apartments Points Classification. Maclean’s success on Ballaghasheen Pass earns him the Irish Independent Mountains Jersey. Liam O’Brien moves into the Spin 11 U23 Jersey, taking it from teammate Odhran Doogan, who was involved in an earlier crash. For the second consecutive stage, Matteo Cigala was the first Irish County Rider home, winning the Festina award and retaining the Sport Ireland County Rider Jersey.
